Integrated Dewar Cooler Assemblies

Compact IDCAs for Any Environment   ___
As Lockheed Martin’s infrared (IR) center of excellence, Santa Barbara Focalplane (SBF) develops and manufactures focal plane arrays (FPAs) that deliver high-resolution imagery in real-time, integrated dewar cooler assemblies (IDCAs) for high-performance sensors, and camera cores that offer big-sensor performance in compact and low-SWAP configurations.

An IDCA consists of a focal plane enclosed in a dewar and integrated with a cooler (the dewar seals the FPA so it can be cryogenically cooled). SBF’s IDCAs are suitable for small, hand-held and drone applications and robust systems designed for the rigors of space and super-sonic tactical flight environments.

Our IDCAs, powered by proprietary nBn IR and digital read-out integrated circuit (ROIC) technologies, run at much higher operating temperatures, compared to traditional indium antimonide (InSb) solutions. We also have designs suitable for InSb and long-wave detectors.
InSb vs nBn
The transition to nBn has led to dramatic reductions in sensor size, weight, power and cost, as can be seen by comparing the 2010 IDCA using InSb (left) to the 2018 μLAD design using nBn (right).
IDCA Sniper Dewer
A dewar seals the FPA so it can be cryogenically cooled. This dewar is part of Lockheed Martin’s Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod.
IDCA Sniper
Santa Barbara Focalplane IDCAs are equally suitable for low-SWAP applications and robust systems designed for the rigors of space and super-sonic tactical flight.
