FSAD Guidebook

The Fundamentals of Secure Aviation Design (FSAD)

In today’s aviation landscape, cyber-enabled systems power everything from advanced flight controls to mission-critical communications. These capabilities bring unmatched performance and efficiency—but also potentially introduce new vulnerabilities. The Fundamentals of Secure Aviation Design (FSAD) is Lockheed Martin’s guidebook intended to help the entire aviation community “build security in” from the ground up.

The FSAD defines the principles, engineering practices, and supply chain considerations essential for creating cyber-resilient aircraft. It is incumbent on us all to develop systems that can anticipate, withstand, recover from, and adapt to evolving threats. Whether in commercial transportation or military defense, safeguarding aviation platforms is a shared responsibility. This guidebook equips stakeholders across the industrial base with the knowledge to protect mission-critical functions and ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the skies.
