As an industry leader, Lockheed Martin Canada aims to support its employees, customers, supply chain, industrial and academic partners, and the wider community. We are proud to play an active role in helping to strengthen the quality of life in Canada and the local communities where we live and work.
Lockheed Martin Canada focuses its philanthropic efforts and support in two key areas:
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education
- Military and veteran causes
As part of our efforts to educate and inspire tomorrow’s scientists, engineers and mathematicians, Lockheed Martin Canada’s approach to STEM outreach includes support for programs, events, and campaigns that focus on student engagement and achievement, teacher development, and gender and ethnic diversity.
Lockheed Martin Canada is also dedicated to supporting service members with programs that improve their lives and the lives of their families, enhance educational and training opportunities, and honour their selfless duty to our country.
These causes reflect the values embodied in our employees and are intrinsic to the Lockheed Martin culture. In addition to providing donations and sponsorships, the company encourages its workforce to volunteer both time and expertise to supporting local community groups and actively encourages employee fundraising events and activities. Stated simply, our employees care. They are talented professionals, but it is their genuine concern for others that helps make Lockheed Martin Canada an exceptional contributor to our communities.

STEM SMARTS Impacting Education
Advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is a critical focus for Lockheed Martin Canada. We know firsthand the importance of educating our young people in these areas. Our company’s future success depends on a constant supply of highly trained, highly capable technical talent. By committing to STEM education, we support programs that educate and inspire tomorrow’s scientists, engineers and mathematicians.
We have been supporting STEM programs in Canada for many years through funding, sponsorship, and education outreach activities for students from elementary school through university. Many of our employees are also passionate about STEM and dedicate a significant amount of time volunteering in classrooms and in support of local programs.
In 2015, we launched the Lockheed Martin Canada STEM Council to combine ideas and resources across our sites in Canada for one coordinated effort. Our employees are working together to enhance our impact in all the communities in which we work – from Victoria, BC to Halifax, NS.
Here is a snapshot of some of the STEM programs we support today:
ACTUA: Actua is a national charity that is preparing youth to be innovators and leaders by engaging them in exciting and accessible STEM experiences that build critical skills and confidence. Actua and its partners inspire over 225,000 youth every year, reaching every province and territory in Canada through the delivery of summer camps, classroom workshops, clubs, and community outreach activities.
STEAM Horizon Awards: Since 2016 the STEAM Horizon Awards have offered annual $25,000 scholarships for five exemplary students to use towards their post-secondary education in a STEAM field. The winners are selected based on their inspiring achievements in the fields of STEAM. These achievements may be formally recognized through a patented invention, or less formal through the founding of a local coding club. Two of the five prizes go to Indigenous youth, and all the winners reflect passion and illustrate a positive impact on their communities.
FIRST Robotics Competitions: Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, these competitions are the ultimate ‘sport for the mind’. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of 20 or more students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors.
VEX Robotics Competitions: The VEX Competitions are presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. For each competition, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to compete in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more.
Techsploration: Operating for nearly 20 years, this Nova Scotia not-for-profit organization focusses on reaching girls and young women with the aim to increase the number of women working in STEM fields. Studies show that women are still vastly under-represented in the STEM fields. Techsploration introduces high school students to a variety of women role models currently employed in science, trades and technology occupations.
Military and Veteran Support
At Lockheed Martin, we’re driven by a passion for innovation to shape the future and solve some of the world’s most difficult challenges. We bring that same passion and sense of purpose to our communities, and together with our nonprofit partners, we are making a difference in the lives of service members, veterans, and their families and caregivers.
Lockheed Martin Canada is dedicated to supporting service members through corporate contributions, employee volunteer efforts, and fundraising activities. These efforts help with programs that improve service members' lives and the lives of their families, enhance educational and training opportunities, and honour their selfless duty to our country.
Here are just a few of the organizations and programs we support for our military and veteran communities:
Canada Company: Canada Company is a charitable, non-partisan organization that serves to build the bridge between business and community leaders and the Canadian Military. Their goal is to ensure that the men and women in our Canadian Armed Forces receive the widest support, care and recognition that they deserve.
Military Family Resource Centres: Located on Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Bases across the country, Military Family Resource Centres provide support to the parents and/or the spouses and children of CAF members. They provide relevant programs and services that empower and encourage strong, independent individuals and families within the CAF.
Winter Sports Clinic for Veterans: Held annually by the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing, this clinic promotes adaptive sports instruction and peer/mentor relationships for physical and mental health and rehabilitation. Veterans, injured soldiers and family members can take part in adaptive skiing, swimming, sledge hockey and other activities.
Volunteerism and Community Involvement
A Million Makes a Difference is part of Lockheed Martin’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where we live and work. Our dedicated employees donate countless volunteer hours in support of causes they care about. Our goal is to reach 1 million hours of collective service each year.
In addition to the corporation investing more than $25 million worldwide to nonprofit organizations, focusing on STEM education and military/veteran causes, employees donate $20 million annually to various organizations through workplace-giving campaigns.
